Starting the reflecting

This year I approached my business differently in a number of ways. Some activities I had planned for the year didn’t wind up happening and others that I hadn’t anticipated did. That’s okay – I was trying not to be so rigid in my planning that I couldn’t be open to new possibilities.

However, I did a lot more scheduling and marking down of hours spent on various activities than I ever had before. I also had it set up [...] Continue Reading…

The most direct route – a straight line?

I wanted something fairly simple, I had really expensive high-speed DSL in my house and I wanted to be able to use it in the office and the living room (they are separated by the dining room). Had the router, had a wireless network set up, but consistently the connection would drop in the living room. I didn’t run back to the office every time, but it wasn’t always dropping in there. Depending on what I was doing, not [...] Continue Reading…

Scolding as a customer service tool

Image: renjith krishnan / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

I’m  an adult, I don’t like to be scolded. In fact, as a kid I didn’t like to be scolded. I think my least favorite thing is the condescension.  Now I’ve had some customer service experiences were I’ve been scolded for not knowing things that I am not sure how I was supposed to know. It’s happened online and offline. Most of the time I can shrug this off and remember not to do business with [...] Continue Reading…

Don’t keep injuring yourself

Everybody knows that old joke about the guy who went to the doctor and said, “Hey doc, whenever I move my arm, it hurts!” and the doctor says – “So stop moving your arm!” or any of  its gazillion variations :) I was thinking about it because Heather is supposed to go on a liquid diet while they work on her jaw – to minimize the additional pain caused by chewing and crunching and whatnot. And the physical therapist [...] Continue Reading…

3 Reasons Why Text Ad Exchanges are Super Responsive

I’ve been increasingly happy both owning text ad exchanges and using them to generate leads and sign-ups. Text ad exchanges, for those who don’t know, allow you to view advertising in a number of ways – emails to your inbox, banners and text ads on the site, log-in ads and more. Then when you click on these you get points, which you can then use to place advertising of your own. So to sum up the top three reasons [...] Continue Reading…

Promo Code Monday – Update

We still have Promo Code Mondays, so hop on board and come post promo codes that you have for text ad exchanges on our Facebook page. As a quick reminder – promo codes are given out by text ad exchanges sometimes on their home page, in the members area or in emails. Some sites will give individual promo codes that they can use. The only restriction is that you shouldn’t post a promo code if the owner has asked [...] Continue Reading…

Making Mistakes – Moving on

This year I’ve been trying to work “smart” on my business – developing plans, schedules, prioritizing, etc. But, being human and very fallible, I made a mistake. It’s not an earth-shattering error or one that’ll land me in jail. However, it is one that totally screws up a day-to-day technique I was really using to manage  things.

So I have been trying to work around this.  I have been trying to decide if I need to fix the mistake “correctly”, [...] Continue Reading…

Whose schedule am I on?

So this year I’ve been working on meeting scheduling goals to  maximize effectiveness. For example, I’ll spend x amount of hours per week answering email and another x advertising in text ad exchanges and another x earning credits to advertise in ptcs, etc etc. In doing this, I seriously pulled back from anything that didn’t fall into the goals with the intention that I’d add things in gradually, assess what’s [...] Continue Reading…

Regaining control of my advertising

Last month was focusing on decluttering the inbox. Went pretty well and now for this month I have a schedule to take care of it I’ve been implementing. I’ll evaluate at the end of the month to see if it needs any tweaking, but I’m happy so far and most importantly I feel like I have control back.

So  for this month, I picked an advertising task – getting organized [...] Continue Reading…

Enough Already – Focusing on decluttering the inbox

So for New Year’s I didn’t want to do the same-old resolutions. But I was spending time evaluating different areas of my business and different tasks that get done and doing some planning. I’ve been watching this “Enough Already” show about people’s whose houses  have become too cluttered and they have to do something about it. And they go through some basic skill sets like setting limits. And the host [...] Continue Reading…
